One day, a rebellious hand decides to leave its body and set off on a journey to live a life of its own. Facing unexpected encounters and obstacles, it searches for freedom and independence. This grotesque outdoor performance uses humour, puppet animation and visual imagination to reflect on courage, individuality and finding one’s place in the world. It was created for the 10th anniversary of the inscription of Slovak and Czech puppetry on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Bratislava Puppet Theatre (Bratislavské bábkové divadlo), founded in 1957, is a progressive stage in contemporary Slovak puppetry. It combines traditional puppetry with physical theatre, object manipulation, projections, live music and multimedia. Alongside its regular repertoire, the theatre actively engages in international collaborations and organises the Prieniky festival.
