Empathy

17 Sep at 10:00, BBD Main Hall

Every day we look at the faces of others, trying to read their inner worlds. But can we truly listen and perceive what remains hidden beneath the surface? Through movement, music, word and visual imagery, this original production crafts a mosaic of empathy’s various faces. Four performers seek paths towards and away from one another — directly as well as through detours. Spontaneously, freely and playfully. They search for empathy in unfamiliar places and unusual objects, observing and exploring it under extraordinary circumstances with an uncertain outcome.

Rather than telling a single continuous story or offering ready-made answers, the production opens up space for personal associations. It invites audiences to reflect on closeness, understanding and relationships. It is an invitation to pay closer attention to others and to ourselves. The performance offers young audiences an encounter with postdramatic theatre and an abstract theme through an unconventional form, delivering a vivid and resonant theatrical experience.

Žilina Puppet Theatre is the oldest professional puppet theatre in Slovakia, founded in 1950 as the Puppet Stage of the Regional Theatre of Workers. While primarily dedicated to children and young audiences, it regularly produces works for teenagers and adults. The theatre blends traditional puppetry techniques with live acting, music, movement, object theatre and visual arts. Its repertoire spans fairy tales, literary adaptations and original works. The company also organises the Bábková Žilina – Živý festival, bringing contemporary domestic and international puppetry to the city.
